The Noe Valley remodel project was based on the owner's desire to incorporate his collection of museum-quality Chinese antiques into his living space, without the gravity it might bring to a contemporary environment. The kitchen combines unusual materials such as statuary white marble, eucalyptus floors, sage-green plastic laminate and punches of bold color to reflect a modern eclectic Chinese aesthetic with an irreverent edge. The compact, upstairs bathroom, tucked under an attic, utilizes a refined palette of materials including alabaster countertops, tumbled black marble mosaics, blue-glass tile, and slab limestone floors to create a spa-like atmosphere. Filtered daylight via a skylight sheds a soft, serene glow into the room.
